Are You A Collector of The Saint Gaudens Gold Coin?

190-623 If you are a coin collector then you need to add the Saint Gaudens Gold Coin to your collection. This coin is named after it's artist who is one of the premier artists in American history. This is a $20 gold gold piece that is said to be one of the most extraordinary pieces of art in American history. There are many different variations of the coins over the years but all feature the double eagle design.

190-611 The first double eagle gold coin was produced in in 1849 at the same time as the California gold rush. In 1850 they began regular production of the coin until the year 1933 when the price of gold changed. In 1907 only 12,367 of these coins where produced which pushes their value over the $10,000 mark since this year is such a rare year. When one of these coins is found to be in perfect condition it can sell for half a million dollars. In 1907 this coin featured the year written in Roman Numerals, but in later years it was changed to Arabic numerals. The motto "In God We Trust" was on the original design but was later omitted from other designs.
190-720 In January of 2009 the U.S. mint released the ultra high relief double eagles using the same Saint Gaudens design. It is made from one ounce of.9999 fine gold. At one point in time there was a cap on the number of these coins in which you could by but those restrictions have since been lifted. There are a total of 115,178 of these coins that were minted. The original selling price of this coin was $1,239 but that number has been steadily climbing ever since.
When you want to own a piece of history then you need to add one of these coins to your collection. There are many who would love to own one of these coins but due to the price they do not have the ability. That is why it is important to keep in mind that these coins will only increase in value making them a good investment.
